CALGARY WORLD Cup-JULY 5

CALGARY WORLD CUPJULY 5.

CALGARY WORLD CUPJULY 5.

It was ironic that the 1988 Winter Olympics was held at the same location as the Olympic selection World Cup event. Calgary hosted the cross-country event that saw Mary McConneloug become the only woman mountain bike Olympian. McConneloug’s remarkable charge to the front proved she is the most competitive woman on American soil. Alison Dunlap admits to the truth, stating that her Olympic dream has ended.

Gunn-Rita Dahle won the World Cup Series Championship by winning her tenth World Cup after ten attempts. There is only one round left. In two months, the World Champion Filip Meirhaeghe will face off against Olympic bronze medalist Christoph Sauser at the Livigno World Cup finale. You might also be interested in Roland Green and Ryder Hesjedal, who both pulled out of the race because they were feeling unwell.

FOURCROSS
The weekend began with the fifth World Cup Fourcross. It was also the only event that took place in dry conditions. It rained on that night, but stopped for the Womens XC and started hailing hard halfway through the mens race. It rained all night, making Sundays downhill a mudfest.

Both Michal Prokop, Sabrina Jonnier mathematically secured their 2004 World Cup overall titles by winning their fourcross mains. Although it was significant news, it wasn’t as important as Brian Lopes eagerly awaited return to racing. Brains’ fifth place semi-final victory marks a successful return to the circuit after four months. Expect a lot more.

DOWNHILL
Steve Peat, 2002 World Cup Downhill Champion, was the fourth and final ride to claim the title. Steve was satisfied with a third-place finish to win this year’s title. The women’s title in Italy will be decided by Celine Gros, Sabrina Jonnier and Tracy Moseley.
