HELP APPROVE NEW TRAILS AT MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK

IMBA encourages mountain bikers to support the construction of singletrack in Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park. The park included an option to create 6 miles of trail for hiking and bicycling in their Comprehensive Trail Plan Update. The park has received support from local mountain bikers who want to see it modified to add more singletrack.

Additional Information

Mammoth Cave National Park is a long-standing supporter of mountain biking. It opened its first trails in 1999. In 1999, the park entered into a formal agreement to allow mountain biking on a limited basis. This program was successful, and many local mountain bikers contributed their time to help rehabilitate Mammoth Caves trails.

The Comprehensive Trail Plan update contains several options, including one that calls for changing the trail access for cyclists. Local riders and the IMBA support a modified Alternative 4, which would allow for construction of 6 miles of singletrack. This endorsement is in support of a modified Alternative 4 that would allow construction of?6 miles of singletrack.

Mammoth Caves trails are not designed professionally, which causes erosion and muddiness. To minimize environmental impact and enhance user experience, new trails will be constructed.
Local riders have joined forces with hiking and horseback riding clubs to create a shared vision for the trails in Mammoth Cave National Park. Alternative 4 is a modified version that includes the support of many recreation interests.
